Inbound links

Why inbound links?

Inbound Links are a source of targeted traffic. Links from similar themed websites drive relevant traffic interested in your website and the products it offers. Targeted traffic is more apt to convert into a sale. Relevant links also raise your natural search engine rankings. Building incoming links to your website is the most important thing you can do to increase your organic search engine rankings.

Inbound anchor text links are certainly the most important factor that determines the pagerank of a web site or web page. Inbound links became really popular for their contribution to link popularity wich increases the PageRank value of a web site. Inbound links with the right link text and a high page rank will increase your own Pagerank. When Google announced their link based PageRank, having inbound links became an absolute essential step in achieving top rankings in SERPS (search engine results pages).

Basically, the more pages link to your website, the more important your website is, moreover, if the inbound links come from a popular page( with a high page rank), their contribution to your page rank will be higher, this means that a links from a page that has a page rank of 6/10 will weight a lot more tan a link from a page ranking 1/10.

How to get inbound links?

There are many ways to increase the number of inbound links:

  • You can submit your website to web directories, some of them are free, and some of them are commission or fee based for example: yahoo directory charges 299$ for inclusion. Among the free directories try to avoid those who ask for a reciprocal link, since these aren't really useful directories and the ratio of your inbound links/outbound links is really important for your page rank
  • You can become an active Internet writer or hire someone to do it for you. This means that you need to regularly post on popular forums, submit articles to ezines and article directories, blog... make sure that you're allowed to include spiderable anchor text links, otherwise this is a total waste of time.
  • you can also try link exchange, many websites offer link exchange services, you can find organized directories of websites looking for link exchange. be careful though, a lot of automatic link exchange programs come from link farms or free for all links which are spammers that can harm your ranking or even get your website banned from search engines, it is highly recommended that you check the quality of your incoming links, this process can be time consuming and boring but it is necessary.
  • You can also buy links. if you do a quick search you will find a lot of websites that want to sell links, or middle-man services such as linkbrokers or textlinkads to manage your links, the price of these links depends on their quality.
  • finally you can search for websites related to yours and contact them by email for reciprocal link exchange or find out who's linking to your competitors and try to do the same or better than them. you can find free tools that can help you find that information on linkvendor.com.
  • Finally, there are even links for sale by public auction, such as linkadage.com

Most websites are not natural link magnets, and link acquisition can be time-consuming and frustrating. Many websites that are approached by email will say no, but some will say yes. For top rankings, it is essential to take the time and get many inbound links.

web analytics

Web analytics is the measurement of a website's visitors behaviour. The main goal of a web site is providing information and content to its visitors, but how do you know how many people visited your websites, which pages did they visit, which content is more likely to attract visitors, are there any returning visitors... Usually when you invest time and money optimizing your website, or promoting it, or managing a pay per click campaign, you have to know how effective it was, that way you can decide If it's worth it or not. In fact, every webmaster has to track his online visitors and their behaviour.

Web analytics is the measurement of a website's visitors behaviour. It refers to the measurement of the best converting pages, the number of visitors, unique visitors, returning visitors, goals, entry pages, exit pages, geolocalisation... in order to determine which pages of the website succeeds and helps you reach your objectives. For example, You need to understand where your traffic comes from, which landing pages encourage people to make a purchase, which affiliate or partner site sends the most converting traffic, which one sends low quality, non converting traffic, which marketing effort generates the best Return On Investment (ROI)... thus Web Analytics is critical to improving the measurable results of a marketing campaign in order to improve the return on investment (ROI) or you are simply wasting your money.

There are two main technological approaches to collecting web analytics data. The first method, logfile analysis, reads the logfiles in which the web server records all its transactions. The second method, page tagging (ex :Google analytics), uses JavaScript on each page to notify a third-party server when a page is required by a web browser. The two techniques can present different results. The differences you see between the two solutions is due to two main factors: -file caching: if a returning visitor has file caching enabled on his web browser (usually it is the case) the request for the file he already viewed will not be sent to the web server, and he will view a local copy, so a logfiles analysis software will not detect multiple visits some times. -Page tagging relies on the client (visitor) browser voluntarily providing the analytical information requested. Some browsers disable so me data collection for security reasons.

The main advantages of logfile analysis are the fact that the data is already logged by your webserver. Every transaction is recorded by the webserver regardless of the visitors browser, and this data is on your server directly in standard format so you don't rely on a third party server. Another advantage is the fact that logfiles provides information about visits from search engine spiders, bots, and failed requests which is really important if you want to optimize your website.

The main advantages of pagetagging is that the javascript is called every time the page is loaded so you can track precisely your visitors behaviors even if they are loading the web pages locally from their cache. it can also report on events which do not involve a request to the web server (flash action script...). Page tagging is adequate if you run ebusiness websites, or if you need to track your visitors behavior.

A multitude of web analytics software and service providers are available, such as google analytics, omniture, clicktracks, AwStats, statscounter... Some of them use pagetagging or logfiles analysis or a hybrid approach using both, I believe that if you are serious about optimizing your web presence you need to use both techniques in a complementary approach. Web analytics solutions can be technically difficult to configure with funnels, goals, targets, special items tagging (flash, javascript...) the process can be complicated and time consuming, that's why some people outsource the whole process to an expert especially when it comes to configure the software in the beginning. Usually when you outsource search engine optimization or web promotion it comes with a web analytics solution and traffic reports in order to measure the effectiveness of the provided services.

Synerjy.net can help you track your costumers behaviors and improve your ROI, using programs which collect data through both logfiles and page tagging or commun solutions such as clictracks, omniture, google analytics...as well as logfile analysis.

SEO introduction

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the art of improving the number and quality of a website visitors by ranking high in the search results of a search engine (google, yahoo...). In fact, search engines generate millions of quality visitors to all kinds of websites. A Web site ranking high in the results of a search will be visited by more users.
Search engine optimization consists of a series of strategies and techniques combined together in order to improve the rank of a web page in the SERP's (search engines results pages) .

These strategies include "on page" techniques: changes to the web page's code and "off page" techniques: mainly getting quality incoming links from other sites. The techniques may be classified in two main categories: "white hat" and "black hat" seo techniques. While "white hat" seo techniques are recommended by search engines and web authorities as part of web design best practices, "black hat" seo techniques (referred to as spamdexing) may get the web site banned from the search engines.
SEO can be a stand-alone service but it's results are more effective when combined with other techniques taking part of a larger marketing campaign.

The combination of all these techniques when done by competent professionals leads to a better ROI ( Return On Investment).
